When I was studying the techniques of teaching children, there was a very strong push to make everything fun. Children should have fun at school. It was kind of a new approach to the education in Poland. Remember, that it was 30 years ago. Anyway, we had to look at how to make classes more fun and easier for the students.
I do not know how successful this method was and I do not know if it is still taught at universities, but there was something that always scared me. If school has to just be fun, then when is the time to learn how to seriously apply to our life? Right now it is even worse. College students need fun. They very often make relationships for fun. They travel, work, talk to each other -- for fun. Or maybe there is something different and they are just afraid to touch it.
I think many young people are afraid to take life seriously because they never learned how to do it. For so many years everything was provided for them. Things were done the way they like it. Any problem was solved. When they finish college, all those things will not be done for them anymore. It is a challenge.
Our life needs some fun. We need some time of laughter and joy. It is a part of our nature. If we balance the seriousness of life with fun in our life, we are probably much more creative and fruitful.
I am talking about it because sometimes I am very much surprised by young people and their desire to do the right thing, but unfortunately they do not know how. No one ever taught them. So, let's teach our young generation how to be responsible, how to choose between right and wrong. They will appreciate it when their time comes.
