Censorship

Who can make the decision which speech is allowed and which is not? Actually nobody can do it. And you probably wonder why. Our judgment on speech is based on our understanding of the world. Before I will go any further let's look at history.
Our savior Jesus Christ came to us in the time of the Roman Empire, but actually it wasn't the Romans that were trying to quiet him. It was the scribes and Pharisees that wanted to shut him down. The leaders of the Jews could not stand that a poor man from Bethlehem would be teaching and giving hope to tired people. From the political point of view, Jesus Christ had to die because he was saying the truth. The Pharisees' censorship didn't work. The more they tried to kill the Gospel the more it was shared among people. There is one universal truth - you cannot kill the truth.
We are facing now a new kind censorship. I just closed my Twitter account because I cannot support a platform that manipulates information and bans the President. We do not have to like what he says, but we have to allow him to speak. I like a scene from the movie "Interstellar" when the father comes to the school and hears that the history was changed and they do not teach anymore about a man on the moon. He was not allowed to teach his daughter about real history.
I've heard so many bad things about myself, but it doesn't mean that I have to forbid people to talk about me. It is rather a moral law that tells us what we should say and what we should keep to ourselves. Censorship is not a moral law. It is a prison. Any evil always tries to intimidate and control people. Any government that is lying is hiding behind the censorship because it is afraid to lose the power. This was one of the biggest issues of Communism -- that it was afraid so it had to control what could be said.
The same is with the Gospel and the teaching of the Church. There are so many forces that want to keep the Church quiet. They will use everything to shut down the Church and the truth of Jesus Christ.
We cannot serve two lords. We can serve only one and it is Jesus Christ. The freedom of speech is rooted in the Gospel and comes to us as an order: go and proclaim the Gospel. We will always be a sign of contradiction and of hope. We will speak the truth because only truth sets us free. "Proclaim the message and, welcome or unwelcome, insist on it. Refute falsehood, correct error, give encouragement -- but do all with patience and with care to instruct." (2 Tim 4:2)
Thank you, Father, as you say “you cannot kill the truth”. God is always helping us if we listen. I am praying that every family is coming closer together in teaching and understanding, building their foundation with God’s guidance ever present. I have faith that this is happening.
Thank you, Father, for this post, and for your post on violence. Thank you, as always, for speaking the truth. We are so grateful. God bless.
