Do you have your own thoughts?

It always amazes me when people talk about something following exactly the same examples, thesis, arguments. It is like they read exactly the same books, the same data base, the same research. But as we know that is impossible. So why do we say exactly the same things without knowing how they came to us?
Before I started this post I tapped on Google "Catholic Church". The main info was about sex abuse. That would mean that the Catholic Church is an organization sexually abusing people. If you tap "Hollywood" then you will get a list of the best movies. So Hollywood is a place of success and the Church is a place of scandal. It doesn't matter that Hollywood is facing as much abuse. What matters is that Google decides what you should know about the world.
So there is a question about our own thoughts. I talked to my nice today. It is a time of school on-line so she cannot go to the library. The only source is the Internet. So when she does research on-line she doesn't find the facts but what the internet provider allowed her to see. After years of being directed this way, she will not know the facts but only the information that is given to her without any verification.
You might be asking yourself why I am talking about this. Imagine that you would like to find the answer to your doubt. You go to the Internet and ask Google to find for you everything that is related to your doubt. Unfortunately you will not get the best answer for you but only the one that Google wants you to know. Because most people are naive enough to accept easy answers the next part of life will be directed by the algorithm that was developed by someone doing business on every single piece of info about us.
So, are you sure that your thoughts are actually your thoughts? What if somebody implanted them into you and now based of the knowledge about you directs everything in your life? That happens all the time to all our young people. They lost their faith not because they stopped believing but because they were directed to fight God in society. The same happens with facebook, Instagram and other social platforms.
So maybe the best way to keep our own life is to return to the regular paper book, to libraries, to normal interpersonal talks. Only real relationship with others can keep us in a relationship with God.
I completely agree with you. It’s my turn to recommend you to watch the documentary “the social dilemma” on Netflix. It’s talking about that and show that we are all manipulated. We are making decision only influenced by what we are reading on internet, social media,.... what a shame
This is so true and something I do not think many are aware of. Google also will pull up different results based on where you live as well. Sigh. We all, especially, our children need to be made aware of the bias of these search engines. Well said and thanks.
Very well said! There is more scandal in one day in Hollywood than an entire decade in the Church, yet it remains hidden from the public eye. Our Church is holy! She does great things everyday around the entire world but she is painted as a villain by the secular world who call Good evil and evil good.
Amen, Father Marek. I totally agree with everything you posted. I am not a fan of any of the social media sights. So much misinformation out there and a lot of young people believe it all. A lot of what is on Google is inaccurate, also. Not to be negative but that could all go away. Books and just talking to people is better. We can get answers by praying, too.
