Emmaus

Two disciples on their way to Emmaus were sad and confused. It was the same day when others were also frightened because Jesus’ tomb was empty. They believed that Jesus would set Israel free. They felt everything was gone and all their hope disappeared. They were so discouraged that even when Christ walked with them, they didn’t recognize Him.

This is the road to Emmaus.

At some point everyone has to walk this road. It’s a road of challenge. It’s when our own views of Jesus are challenged, flipped over and redone. Your walk on this road could be a day, a week, or more. But we have to experience this road when Christ walks with us, and we have to recognize Him. No one else can do it for us.

I call it the road of purification. It is an opportunity for us to face the truth of our thoughts, ideas, and opinions, of which the fruits can open us to a renewing grace. No one should ever be afraid to walk this road. All the dust of our lives has to be removed, because a new life will begin for us when we sit at the table with Christ breaking bread.

So, it is time for you to walk your Emmaus, especially if you’ve never been before.
