For so many years we have been receiving the biggest gift offered to mankind. It is Holy Communion. God in his plan of salvation placed this gift as a real unity between Him and us. By the most Holy Body and most precious Blood of his Son, he comes to us to make us one with himself. This is a mystery, but it is also a source of our life. So, what really happens to us when Christ enters our own body?
It is a moment when Jesus' divinity meets with our humanity. Creator enters his creation. Supreme existence unites with simplicity of humans. This the most wonderful moment that requires the most humble approach. We like our pets and we love people but we never give them our body to eat. Holy Communion is different. "Take this all of you and eat it ..." In medieval times one of the symbols placed on the top of a well was a bird, a pelican. This bird was sitting in his nest feeding his chicks with his own blood. Apparently this is what this bird does when there is no food for babies. This symbol was used to express to us the meaning of sacrifice and care. Holy Communion has something from this symbol. Jesus Christ gives us his own Body and Blood because there is no other "food" for us. Nothing that we eat, can satisfy our deepest needs. Our real "food" is God himself. I very often think about people looking for something more spiritually nutritious. They do many exercises, mediation, etc., but it always seems to be not enough for them. I believe if they will turn towards God and His gift of the Eucharist, they could find what they are looking for.
When our heart is free from sin, when our soul is quiet and ready to welcome our Savior, when our worries are calm and silenced, then Jesus Christ fills us with himself. Therefore our preparation to receive Holy Communion is so important. We have to leave everything behind us if we want to meet Jesus. This is a moment of a miracle. Just stay in this moment as long as you can.
Thank you Fr., such beautiful words to remind and refocus me as to what I know is totally and completely true! As they say, “Thanks, I needed that!”
Thank you, Fr. Marek. This is a very inspiring message.

The Louisiana flag also has your pelican and babies. I love that image for Holy Communion! Welcome to Woodland Park!! I am from New Orleans originally. You will love it here! Robyn
