Immersion

Updated: Jul 25, 2020

Today we had our first Chaplet to Divine Mercy after Mass in Woodland Park. It was kind of sad because we couldn't sing any hymns. The Blessed Sacrament was on the altar. Jesus Christ was with us as he was with his disciple. We repeated the words "For the sake of His sorrowful passion have mercy on us and on the whole world."

There was something that took my attention. "Have mercy on us and on the whole world". I've said these words so many times, but maybe I never paid enough attention to what those words mean. Jesus Christ has mercy on me but at the same time he gives his mercy to the whole world, He has mercy on every person that lives. We used to cling to out catholic traditions and customs. Very often we know our faith using sentences we learned a long time ago. But here comes to us one of the biggest attributes of God - his love and mercy. Something that should be so obvious.

It is easy to say "have mercy on the whole word" but can we accept it? The mercy of God is not about winning or losing an argument about God. It is more about taking from God the most beautiful gift of forgiveness and sharing it with the people around us. Forgiveness is not just accepting. It is rather love with expectations. God has mercy on us but he doesn't accept our wrongdoings. He sacrificed his own Son not to make us happy but to make us uncomfortable with our sins.

In the last few decades we lost the true meaning of love. We look at the emotions and take them as a direction for our decisions. We talk more about our feelings than about the truth. So many people make decisions based on emotions and later on they are surprised that it didn't work. The Chaplet to Divine Mercy is so real that all our emotions do not matter anymore. "For the sake of His sorrowful passion..." is not about emotions but about the fact that Jesus Christ accepted death with extreme pain and he did it for us. We are immersed in this sacrifice. This is our life.

Our almighty God, we thank you for this gift of your mercy. May we immerse ourselves in it to the end. You are the only one and true God. Have mercy on us and on the whole world.
