"Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest..."

The Prophet Jeremiah couldn't have expressed his sorrowful heart better when he was looking at Israel. This great nation, close friend of God, was turned into chaos. The old temple was empty and the spirit of the people completely ruined. All the reaches of the tribes we're gone and even priests and prophets couldn't understand what had happened. Why did this chosen people look like ruins?

It was a sad moment in the history of Israel. Attracted by foreign cultures and beliefs, Israel decided to step down from the covenant and faithfulness to God and replace it with a much more modern and "cool" life of pagans. It didn't take much time and doing so before they lost all prosperity and blessings from God.

It reminds me of our time. For so many years, God blessed this wonderful country with many gifts. America was a place of freedom, opportunities, religious liberty and many others. It wasn't a perfect place but it definitely was a land of promise.

There was something special about this place. It was a moral law that was very much respected by many people. Unfortunately in time, the same people slowly forgot about it. They reached for new, modern, more "up to date" elements. For the last few decades, basic moral foundations have been replaced by academic ideas that look good on paper. Enforced by politicians thirsty for power, those ideas replaced God's law. Of course it happened under the symbols of human rights and progress.

Today we are looking at this country and we can repeat after prophet Jeremiah: Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest. Everything that made this place beautiful is lost. The family values are rejected, the ethic of work is forgotten, there is no more respect for elders, etc. And all these things happened because we have sinned by pride. We thought that we could make everything better if we will followed our own ideas.

There is only one way to heal this mess. It is repentance and a return to God. It has to happen in the Church, in the family, in our society, in this country. Only God can stop the growing madness and evil.
