Who doesn't make mistakes? We do them all the time. Smaller or bigger, they are a part of our life. Sometimes we can forget about them and sometimes they stay with us for ever. Yes, they are in our life. There is some mystery in them. They come under the umbrella of a good intention. Very often in an innocent way they can lead us to something that could be painful.
But there are mistakes that happen to us because we have to face some truth about ourselves. If we look at the History of Salvation, we can see Israel making plenty of mistakes through hundreds of years. Every time they turned away from God, He corrected them by punishment and then He came to them with forgiveness and mercy. These are mistakes that help us to see the love of God. All our mistakes, also called sins, show us the unending mercy that God wants to give us if we return to Him. St. Paul taught us that where there is a sin there is even more grace, because even our repentance comes from His grace.
Every sin is a mistake. It is a wrong choice, wrong decision that hurts our soul, but Jesus Christ heals all our wounds and brings peace into our hearts.
What always surprised me was that even knowing about this amazing grace so many people did not want to admit their mistake, they did not want to be healed by our Savior. Sometimes I ask myself how wounded does a person have to be that they don't want to be better in the love of God. Maybe it is because they do not know how to live without their mistakes. This is the only way they embraced and they are afraid to change it.
There is an old tradition of the Church to pray for the sinners. I believe we should return to this tradition. We should again pray and fast for the repentance of the world. It is probably the only way to help those that have gotten lost in their mistakes.
