Pharisees of Our Time.

Well, the Russians are already in Donbas, Ukraine. Everything happens in the name of helping minorities. Of course, I do not see anyone in Germany, France or USA protesting this action. Apparently the importance of freedom depends on where the money or power is. For years, western Europe made empty sanctions against Russia and at the same time was making business deals, showing how hopeless and greedy the European political elites are. Unfortunately, Russia was able to utilize this and turn it against Ukraine.
For a moment I thought that at least some leaders would get more involved in this situation, but apparently the people of Ukraine are not as important as a Nord Stream gas pipe line. Business is business and people are cheap and everybody can buy them as long as they are fed and have entertainment. Ancient Rome had a very famous saying: Give bread and circuses. They knew that as long as people were fed and entertained they would not do anything. Well, the people of Ukraine now know how cheap their freedom is.
But wait for a second. Where are all of our universities with great ideas about freedom, about equality, human rights, etc.? I thought that they knew what is the best for the entire world. I think all of those specialists in a theory should be taken to Ukraine and teach them about the modern values, how to keep peace and how we should love each other. They've taught for years that we should not have any army, that law enforcement is not necessary, that we should stop spending money for improvement of the troops and their equipment. The reality is right now proving who is right.
Again wisdom from ancient Rome: Si vis pacem, para bellum - if you want peace, prepare for war. History has proved that this is truth, but who cares about history anymore? Worse - our history is being changed according to the politicly correct narrative.
As a conclusion I can say that most of our leaders are Pharisees who do not care about the people who have chosen them. Those pharisees will run away from their own countries as soon as they hear the first shot of a gun. Our Lord Jesus Christ told us about it. Only He is the true shepherd. Those politicians are only hired to work and when the wolves come, they will run away with the speed of light.

Take some time to write to your representatives today if you have not done so, to stop radical abortion legislation.

Thank you!
Our hearts break for the people of Ukraine, and we hope what we can do will help. But I grew up during the Cold War, and the situation is complicated by the threat of nuclear war between the U.S. and Russia. Prayers that our leaders can navigate these very complex waters.
Fasting and prayer for the people in Ukraine. Help them Lord!
My heart aches over this, but I agree with you Father Marek.
We here in the Colorado Springs area have a special connection to Ukraine: In 1994, Fr. Paul Wicker, retired diocesan priest, established Catholic Outreach to Northern Ukraine, a ministry dedicated to helping the Catholic Church in Ukraine rebuild after decades of Communist oppression. I plan to donate again as the little I can do from here. If anyone else would like to do so, I trust a google search will give you the information.
