The Second World War

Today in Poland we remember all the soldiers that died in the first day of the second World War. It was September 1st, 1939 when the Germans attacked Poland. From the very beginning, heavily armed German troops had only one purpose, to kill and to destroy Poland. Hitler had seen Poland as an obscure nation that should be erased from the surface of the earth. He had a very simple plan: to attack and in a few days take over half of the country. The second half was for the Russians that came after Poland on September 17th, 1939. On one side were Nazi Germans, on the other side were Communist Russians.

Unfortunately for the Nazis, the Polish soldiers didn't give up so easily. Poorly armed military forces were able to fight for over five weeks giving so many casualties to the enemy that all plans to attack the rest of Europe were postponed.

I am writing about this today to bring something important to our attention. Those few weeks of battles were possible only because the people understand how important it is to have their own country. There were only three words: God, Honor, Homeland. These three are the most sacred words in the heart of every person and especially in the heart of men. It is a man that is called to protect his home and his own people. It is a man that is called to give up his own life for the freedom of others. It is sad that in our time we are losing this great virtue of manhood. It is sad that another generation of young men is stripped of a sense of responsibility for themselves and others.

I would like to encourage parents to bring their sons up with a strong character, with clear understanding of responsibility, and with a love for their own country. The war will come again, in a different way perhaps, with different weapons, with a different face of evil and only the brave heroes will be able to defend this place, this flag, this land. If small Poland was able to challenge powerful Germany, this country can do much more in the name of God, Honor and Homeland.
