It is not a surprise that our world doesn't like the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is everything that our time tries to erase and reject. Here are a few of them.
Family - from the very beginning Mary plays a very important part of the Holy Family. She is not only the mother of God but also a very faithful wife. We see it in her dialog with the Archangel Gabriel and the way she follows Jewish tradition. The traditional family is in danger in our time. Our society changed the meaning and purpose of family.
Woman - being chosen from among women she is the most humble person following the voice of God and serving the best she could. Her example seems to be almost everything in opposition with everything that is promoted about women in our time. Being humble is a sign of weakness for many people but not to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Servant - She shows us how to serve. It comes out of her love for every creation made by God. Seeing herself in a plan of God she serves him the best way by her "Fiat". This is definitely something that our world does not want to accept. You have to be first, not last. Everything has to serve you, you do not serve anybody.
Witness - She perfectly witnessed who her Son is. On the wedding in Cana she gave the directions to the servants: Do whatever he will ask you. It is not something that our modern time would like to follow. To witness somebody else and to be in the shadow of somebody is not something that the world would like to do. All our social media are about bringing ourselves to the eyes of the public.
These are just a few reasons why we have to learn from our Blessed Virgin Mary how to make ourselves like her. Our daily "Fiat" - Let it be - is our best way to be with God.
