And here we go. When the entire world is fighting COVID and looking at the last week of President Donald Trump something much more horrible and terrifying is happening around the world. Just a few days ago "Open Doors" international organization published a report about the worldwide persecutions of Christians in 2020. And here is some data that nobody pays attention to.
309 million Christians were persecuted last year. It is 49 million more than in 2019. There are 4 more countries on the list of the most dangerous: Comoros, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mexico. The main source of persecutions are communism and radical muslims. In many places COVID gave an opportunity to put extreme restrictions on different Christians groups. For example Christians in India cannot get any support because only the Hindu religion is socially accepted. This way all Christians are suffering because of lack of work and social help.
In Western Europe extreme secularism excluded Christians from the public debate and at the same time forbid them to share their ideas against abortion or euthanasia or about the protection of the traditional family.
9488 churches and church buildings were burned, destroyed or vandalized. 4277 Christians were arrested without any court trial and killed or persecuted - 55% of these cases happened in Asia. On the same continent 89% of Christians were killed because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Last year 1710 Christians were kidnaped. 90% of it happened in Africa, mostly Nigeria.
Of course you cannot get the smallest info about it in our public media. Everybody gives the impression that nothing is happening and everything is sweet and nice. Even our last stimulus package didn't include any help - apparently gender problems in Afghanistan or Pakistan (I do not remember which one) is more important. We will build democracy in Venezuela - I hope not the same like in democratic countries in Central to Northern Africa.
I don't think our last election was about Trump only. It was also about getting power that will allow them to persecute Christians, destroy Christian values. It is Christianity that protects personal freedom, the right to live, the dignity of every person, therefore it is dangerous to the modern world.
Today I would like to ask our leaders if they care so much about people why they forgot about Christians? Are they not people? 309 million is almost the number of all Americans. Can we say that they do not matter? Apparently when you believe in Jesus Christ you do not have the same rights as everybody else. So please think about it when you look at our government and ask yourself a question: will you matter in a few years if you are Christian?
We remain so grateful for your words of truth, and your broad, exhaustive look at information worldwide to form your wise perspective, and charge to us. Our country's recent trends, especially limiting freedom of expression, targeting some groups, but not others, along with violence begetting violence, is a troubling precedent. It has repercussions across the globe, and threatens the faithful. Let us be prayerful for our country and world. God bless, Father.
I believe it was Mark Twain who said the following: I Paraphrase "The world is a dangerous place, not because of evil, but. that good men look on and do nothing."
